This client came to me having been unimpressed by the value offered by some high-end kitchen suppliers. She knew what she wanted in terms of layout and general appearance, so it was a case of getting into the detail straight away.
In order to break it up a bit visually, we decided to make the separate tall units in a different material. We choose oak to match other surfaces in the house and paid a joint visit to the suppliers to select the actual veneer to be used on the project. On the side of these I incorporated a pinboard using cork tiles provided by the client.
The client wanted to use some colour in the kitchen but also wanted the clean look of white. I suggested that she could have a different colour on the inside of the doors as a quick impact when opened. Her daughters then selected around half a dozen colours from the formica range which were used in the positions specified by the client. Each of the wall units have a different colour on the rear face of the doors.
