The process generally begins with a meeting at the workshop where we can look at samples and discuss your plans and ideas.

After this you can continue to plan your kitchen, probably using the Ikea Kitchen Planner, bearing in mind the additional options available to you from Bespokea.

You can of course contact me at any time for advice and rough costings of one-off units, different door styles etc.

When you have made your final plans I will provide costs and a production schedule for your Bespokea items. I will also assist you in creating your Ikea shopping list if required.

Work will start on the payment of a 60% deposit. Production takes between 4 and 6 weeks depending on the door style and availability of some materials.

Bespokea is a family business. We are rather traditional in that we like to meet our clients to discuss their needs rather than just selling on-line.
These are the people you might see when you come around…

I will be your main contact at Bespokea. I am the person who will discuss everything with you and then makes it.

This is a picture taken after I had finished making my first chair, before it went to be polished and upholstered. It was taken in 1990 at the School of Furniture I attended for three years in Manchester. I still have the chair but not the hair.

The greatest aspect of the School were the staff, all of whom had served apprenticeships within the industry and came to teach as a second career. I spent two years being taught cabinet making and wood machining before spending a year learning French polishing and spray finishing. I was proud to win a City and Guilds medal for my technical knowledge in this last year.

I then moved to North London where I have lived ever since. I was fortunate to start off in Pearl Dot, a contemporary furniture company, just as the reproduction furniture industry was collapsing.

My skills as a spray finisher were very much in demand, so by 2000 I had moved to Leyton and was focused on spray finishing of furniture made by others. During this time, I did work for many of London’s Museums, Harrods, British Airways and the QE2. End clients included Noel Gallagher and Graham Norton. More importantly, I met my wife Faith and we had our son Joshua.

The financial crash was not a good time for the furniture industry, so I closed the spray business at the end of 2011 and got a job. Three years later I realised it was time to get back to being my own boss and started Bespokea from a shared workshop in Edmonton. The first order came in April 2015 and by September 2016 I was able to move into my own workshop in Walthamstow.

Faith is a Personal Trainer who works from a purpose-built gym at our home in Archway. She works with female clients on a one-to-one basis and is qualified to deal with a multitude of health issues, including cardiac rehabilitation. Get in touch if you feel you need her services…

She comes into Bespokea a couple of days a week to keep on top of the administration and to tell me off for not keeping the place as tidy as she would wish.

Joshua is currently studying for his GSCE’s. He also dedicates a great deal of time to boxing – best result for him so far was a knock-out in the first round after 100 seconds.
He often comes in on a Saturday to either help me or to work on his own projects.
